* Welcome to Shoreline Youth Symphony Orchestra! The Shoreline Youth Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1982 by Ann and Bill Clemmons; it is a
non-profit organization, providing formal music education and performance opportunities for young
people living in Connecticut. Its mission is to provide a quality orchestral music experience for
interested and talented young musicians. In addition to the formal orchestral setting, members may
participate in smaller ensembles, chamber groups, stage band, and as soloists, thus encouraging personal
and artistic growth among the participants.
* SYSO sponsors several concerts throughout the year; annual and traditional concert venues include the
Concert at Killingworth Church, the Spring Pops Concert, and the 4th of July Concert on the Madison
Green. Interspersed with the annual events are performances at community institutions (e.g. the Lyons
Club), out-of-state locations (e.g. Lincoln center). Completing the performing experience of its members
are annual trips to music festivals; past festivals have brought the orchestra to Quebec, England, and the
Bahamas. The orchestra has consistently earned Superior and Excellent ratings at the accompanying
adjudications.
* Administrative support is provided by a volunteer Board of Directors composed (no pun intended) of parents, orchestra members, and enthusiasts. In addition to concert ticekt sales, the program is funded through grants from arts foundations and donations from individual and corporate patrons who understand the importance of musical education in a young person's future.
